Despite the common perception that acne is a teen issue, the research has found that almost half (48%) of 18 to 44 year olds have had a breakout in the last three months.

For those with acne, this feeling is not uncommon – 82% of sufferers say that their skin has held them back in some way, with:

• 61% less confident because of their skin;
• One third (31%) avoiding social events; and
• 20% depressed as a result of their acne.

So while we understand that acne can cause depression, I have also read a few different articles relating to how depression can actually worsen your acne. Although I cannot find any hard evidence to support this claim, this talk has sparked questions in my mind.

The most important thing to do is to recognise the issue and get it treated. For severe depression you should seek help form a qualified counsellor.

For those that find themselves suffering from low self esteem and confidence; find a treatment that works (PuraSkin comes highly recommended) and stick to it! Don’t shy away from that party – perhaps we should be having the time of our lives to keep the acne at bay??!! Here’s a few tips:

• Use a good non-comedogenic concealer or foundation to make up your face and focus on creating real WOW eyes (always use blue black mascara)
• Do something amazing with your hair – try something new and a little different for you
• Make sure your eyebrows have a great shape – it will amaze you how much your eyebrows can actually do to your face
• Use light, pastel tones on your lips – steer away from pinks and reds.
• Smile!

Blackheads form when the pore is only partially blocked, allowing some of the trapped sebum (oil), bacteria, and dead skin cells to slowly drain to the surface. The black colour is not caused by dirt, it is actually the skin's own pigment, melanin, reacting with the oxygen in the air. 1

I don’t think there’s one person I know that hasn’t had to deal with blackheads; whether they are clustered around the t-section or covering your nose and chin – they’ve got to go.

There are special beauty tools around to help remove blackheads. I would advise that you look for a beautician that can do this for you and then look to avoid getting further blackheads. Try not to squeeze them yourself.

The PuraSkin cleanser is my “sacred” beauty buddy, even after acne. The cleanser works to dissolve dead skin cells and prevents pores from clogging which will in turn help to prevent the formation of new blackheads forming.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, nearly 100% of all teens have at least the occasional breakout.

Acne can start from as early as the agen of ten. Teen acne is most common along the nose, forehead, chin and cheeks. However, some teens can also suffer acne in their neck, shoulders, chest, back and upper arms. Some severe cases can persist into adulthood.

Watch this video of teen acne sufferer Gary. Acne did not only affect his skin but his self-esteem too. He became conscious of how others look at him because of his acne.

Gary used PuraSkin to treat his acne.

Puraskin's 3-step acne solution consists of Inside-Out Skin Support Capsules, Deep Derma Cleanser and Acne Clearing Gel.The main difference with PuraSkin compared to other acne treatments is it is a complete solution, working both internally and externally to target acne effectively, whereby most other products only focus on the outer skin.

From top to toe Australia's hottest TV talent looked amazing - well the majority.

We have scoured through the many looks of the evening and have found our favourites.

Samara Weaving

The gorgeous Samara Weaving looked stunning again this year in a black Steven Khalil gown. The back of the gown is faaabulous! Her choice of fresh, simple makeup and smoldering eyes with the soft upstyle makes this our favourite Logies gown.

We had to have two favourites this year and the runner up goes to Delta Goodrem. Delta looked stunning in a Ralph Lauren Grecian number, simply tussled hair and smoky shadowed eyes - just perfect.

One Direction

Don't really think there was any other choice this year for our favourite guy when One Direction came into the mix. How do they keep their hair perfect all night long?

The PuraSkin Deep Derma Cleanser, Acne Clearing Gel and Inside-Out Support Capsules work together to target your exterior and your interior – clearing acne and preventing future breakouts.

The Inside-Out Support Capsules contain active ingredients such as Flaxseed Oil, Vitamin A, B3, B6, C & E and Zinc that work to help relieve acne by providing anti-inflammatory activity and reducing oil production, resulting in improved skin texture and appearance. Antioxidants also help to safeguard the cells against free radical damage.

1.
Drink loads (and loads) of water throughout the day. Don’t wait till you’re thirsty to have a drink - being thirsty usually means you’re could be dehydrated. A great indicator is the colour of your urine, the less colour the better - clear is perfect.

2.
Wash your face in the morning but most importantly at night. After a long days work it is important to use a chemical-free gentle cleanser to clean out all the dirt and sweat that has built up during the day.

3.
Wash your hands with warm soapy water regularly! Dirty, unwashed fingers can contain bacteria. Washing your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds reduces the number of bacteria which can easily be transferred to other parts of your body including your sensitive face.

4.
Don’t pick your face! Picking at your blemishes can spread infection, and ultimately worsen your acne. Clearly a hands-off policy is the best choice when it comes to your skin.

5.
Use only makeup and moisturisers that won't clog your skin (non-comedogenic) and use oil-free sunscreens.

6.
Change your pillow case regularly as bacteria can build up on your pillow case. Most people don’t realise that their pillow case can become filled with bacteria and oil from their hair, skin and anything that is expelled out of their body through your ears, nose, eyes or mouth while they are sleeping.

1. Washing your face more often will help clear acne

-Frequent washing may irritate pores and caused them to become clogged.

2. Stress causes acne

-Stress can have an effect on our hormones which in theory can promote acne. However, there is no direct relation between stress and acne.

3. Sex or Masturbation causes acne

-This myth dates back to the 17th century to discourage people from having premarital sex. However, higher levels of androgen (males hormones) increases sex drive. High levels of androgen have been related to severe cases of acne.

4. The sun will help get rid of acne

- Actually, 10-20 minutes of sun exposure per day for people with lighter skin and 20-30 minutes of sun exposure per day for people with darker skin may prove beneficial for acne, especially body acne. However, over exposure to sun can irritate your skin and trigger an acne.

5. Diet and Acne are related

- These claim needs more research. The diet appears to work in the short term because as your body loses weight; the insulin and other hormones react which makes acne tend to recede. However as body weight levels out or increases, acne symptoms tend to return. With more research, this can be a future reality. We've yet to find an anti-acne diet that will consistently work after the initial weight-loss period.

There are no shortcuts in treating acne. It takes time and a proper skin care regimen to prevent acne.

Prevention is possible by establishing a routine that stops the formation of acne before it becomes a visible pimple.
Puraskin is your 3-step cure and defense from acne.

STEP 1: PuraSkin Deep Derma Cleanser

It purifies and clarifies the skin by dissolving dead skin and preventing the pores from clogging up.

Active Ingredients: Salicylic Acid, Balm Mint, Menthol, Triclosan

STEP 2: PuraSkin Acne Clearing Gel

It penetrates deep into the skin’s surface to target acne where it begins and encourages the skin’s natural ability to clear up acne.

Active Ingredients: Vitamin B3, Australian Sandalwood Oil

STEP 3: PuraSkin Inside-Out Skin Support Capsules

It helps to relieve acne by providing an anti-inflammatory activity and reduce sebum production, resulting in improved skin texture and appearance.

Active Ingredients: Zinc, Flaxseed Oil, Vitamin A, C & E

Even after blemishes, blackheads and pimples disappear, you may continue using PuraSkin Total Acne Solution to prevent new blemishes from forming. Just as you regularly brush your teeth to prevent cavities and gum disease, so too will the daily use of PuraSkin help protect you from further breakouts.

There is no denying that we all feel more confident with pure, clear skin. It feels great to wake up in the morning free to walk out of the house without make up. It also good to know that people are looking and talking to you, not to your blemishes or acne. To be comfortable in your own skin – that is the essence of PuraSkin.

Clear skin is possible with PuraSkin. Have you used PuraSkin before? Please share your stories, tips and experiences on how you treated your acne. Leave a comment below or start a conversation in our forum.

However, it is something that you can manage with a good skin care plan and a total acne solution that can effectively treat and control acne.

So, what is causing acne?

Let’s start with an ‘Acne 101’ overview to get a sense of what’s actually happening here.

Beneath your skin’s surface there are follicles (pores) with sebaceous glands attached to them that produce and secrete a protective oil called sebum.

Sebum is responsible for reducing water loss in your skin and plays a part in the immune regulation by protecting the skin from infection causing fungi and bacteria.

Sebum under normal circumstances is good. However, when there's an over production of sebum it can be a nuisance to the skin and can cause acne.

An example is during puberty, testosterone levels rise in both sexes which increases sebum production. At the same time, the keratin in your skin becomes unusually sticky causing the sebum to clog your pores and prevent skin shedding.

If the follicle opens, then blackheads can form but if it doesn’t open enough then whiteheads appear and inflammation can occur. Most acne sufferers have a combination of both.

Acne is one of the most common skin problems.

Here is a video to help you understand more about acne.

There are several treatments available in the market claiming to treat acne. But, the best products are the ones that compliments your skin care, treats acne and helps you maintain a clear and healthy skin inside-out!

Cheers!
